TSB Bank

200 Morningside Rd, Edinburgh EH10 4QQ, UK – 0131 517 9993

This out of the way branch has an air of pending closure about it......

Building Societies

320 Morningside Rd, Edinburgh EH10 4QW, UK – 0800 554 0936

Always found the staff to be very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Only downside is the location - Morningside Road, a notorious bottleneck with legal nearby parking at a premium.

Really helpful staff. Compared to the high street bank I also use, Nationwide is a breath of fresh air. Also have a pretty decent app, which means I find myself coming here less.

Scottish Building Society

S B S House, 193 Dalry Rd, Edinburgh EH11 2EF, UK – 0131 313 7700

As well as mortgages and savings and investments, the society offers its customers help with inheritance and estate planning, and home insurance.

71 George St, Edinburgh EH2 3EE, UK – 0800 554 0915

This is a nice branch of Nationwide and offers a full-spectrum of services. The vestibule areas are always clean and the glass frontage makes for an attractive and bright space. With the range of machines available, one doesn’t need to queue to see a teller which is nice. Transport to the city centre is excellent and you can easily get to this branch. Would recommend Nationwide both as a building society and this branch specifically

Fantastic service! Myself and my wife went into this branch last week to do the refer a friend account transfer so we have a joint account together. We had exceptional service from Gavin Clearly! He was super efficient, friendly and very clear about the whole process. We had our 19 month old son with us and also had a time restriction as had parking running out on George street. Our son got quite frustrated as he wanted to run around, Gavin was so understanding and gave us such great customer service, highly recommended.

Local Chambers of Commerce for EH1 1EZ. These can be an extraordinarily effective way of getting into the business community and / or getting things done. Equally they can be entirely useless depending on the chair. If they have networking events associated with them definitely go, and keep going, if you have a business that need local support. City Chambers

253 High St, Edinburgh EH1 1YJ, UK – 0131 200 2000

The City Chambers was erected off the Royal Mile, quite deep that it is hard to notice. A quadrangle with a stone War Memorial and a bronze statue of Alexander The Great taming his horse Bucephalus precedes the edifice.

Once an official building now opened to public due to what lies beneath the City Chambers on the Royal Mile. It is deepest Edinburgh's secret - a warren of hidden streets where real people lived, worked and died between the 17th and the 19th centuries. It used to be closed to public due to belonging to being under official building and therefore off limits but now it is open to public! and what a fantastic tour it is. I think it was my highlight in Scotland. These underground closes and witness some of the dramatic episodes and extraordinary apparitions from this site's fascinating and historically rich past. Mary King's Close -Buried deep beneath Edinburgh's Royal Mile lies the city's deepest secret warren of hidden streets that has remained frozen in time since the 17th century.

Ocean Drive Dental Care

120 Ocean Dr, Edinburgh EH6 6JG, UK – 0131 555 0376

OMG Dr Ahmed is the best dentist i have ever had and I have had quite a few dentist. I had been thinking about getting the gaps between my teeth sorted out for ages but never had the confidence in my previous dentist. When I started visiting Dr Ahmed he recommended C-fast. He filled me with confidence abt the the whole treatment. I am so glad I decided to get the treatment done. 5 months later I am so happy with the results. He was so patient and understanding throughout the whole process. I can't recommend him highly enough. Thank you very much Dr Ahmed.

l went on vacation to Edinburgh and on Saturday morning, l felt a sudden pain on my wisdom teeth in the left back. The ache was terrible, but to my good luck. l found Kfdental on the internet and with the minimal treatment, l contiuned my vacations! Thank you so much!

Chalmers Dental Centre

3 Chalmers St, Edinburgh EH3 9EW, UK – 0131 536 4800

Quite a long 2.5-hour wait between reception and treatment, but no complaints otherwise. Extraction was dealt with efficiently by nice friendly staff in a very modern treatment room.

Calm and professional staff. First class equipment

Leven Medical Practice

10 Ponton St, Edinburgh EH3 9QQ, UK – 0131 536 9700

I had a very good experience with two female doctors of the centre. The staff is also very polite and professional. I also like the new self registration system.

Was a little worried due to some of the reviews on here. The Gilmore wasn't accepting new patients and desperately needed to see a doctor. I was able to register on the Monday - reception staff were polite, prompt and respectful. Then on Wednesday I was seen quickly at the walk in clinic, seeing Dr Jason who was extremely professional and sympathetic.

The Baronscourt Surgery

89 Northfield Broadway, Edinburgh EH8 7RX, UK – 0131 657 5444

Just recently moved to the area, and was fairly ominous about registering at the practice after reading alot of reviews but I can honestly say from my first encounter the staff receptionist included were all very polite and extremely helpful. I wanted to make an appointment after registering but was informed it takes two days to be registered. After explaining the situation the receptionist very kindly said she would get me registered so I could make an appointment the following day. The next day my appointment was made without fuss and I was seen by a very professional doctor.

I have been with this surgery all my life, almost 34 years. The original old doctors were amazing but they have now all retired or left. There are a couple of doctors there who are very helpful but like other reviews have said, the receptionists let the place down. They sound aggressive over the phone, answer you back face to face when I was nothing but polite. No need for this. Asking simple questions seem like an inconvenience. I have waited an hour and a half past my appointment time to find the receptionist hadn't marked me as waiting. This has happened twice that i can think of. I don't think I've ever been taken on time. 30 mins plus past your appointment time is normal but don't dare be 1 min late or the aggressive receptionist will have something to say! If the receptionists were as they should be then i would have gave 4 stars but i have instead given a generous 3 stars

West End Medical Practice

36 Manor Pl, Edinburgh EH3 7EB, UK – 0131 225 5220

Always lovely ladies at the reception. Fantastic doctors, midwives and nurses. So friendly and caring. I can't praise them enough. They all have been so good and kind to myself and my family. Yes sometimes is hard to get an apoitment but some people don't get how busy it can be and they have no understanding at all. Thank you all for looking after us over the last 3 years, so sad we have to change due relocating. You've been great to us.

It's an excellent surgery. Good doctors, good receptionists, good care

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

Ferryfield House

100 Pilton Dr, Edinburgh EH5 2HF, UK – 0131 537 6246

Great care on the rowan ward.......great staff, good food, and a very helpful ambiance. This was far superior to our 5k a month private nursing home...... and it was "free"!! My mum liked it there.

What an amazing place. The fabric of the building is a little tired but this can be excused and is more than compensated for by the wonderful staff who work there. They looked after my mum brilliantly with a lot of little touches that made my mums final few weeks very comfortable. From Mary who brought mum in a metro to read, ( just because she saw one), to the catering and cleaning staff who always had a smile and a few stories to share every single person went the extra mile. The professional care my mum received was just excellent I couldn't have asked for more. As well as making my mum comfortable Leanne and Shona took time out to make sure I was coping and offered friendly advice and a shoulder to cry on when I needed it. I will always remember Ferryfield House fondly and my advice to the team there is keep doing what you are doing it makes a huge difference.

Very surprised to discover that I could review an office! I have to say that having worked in the building and having met my wife here I am happy to give a five star review. I suspect that some of the other reviews are for another location (St Mary's Cathedral is one candidate).

Amazing church

City of Edinburgh Methodist Church

25 Nicolson Square, Edinburgh EH8 9BX, UK – 0131 662 8635

Venue was bright, well lit, books well displayed, volunteers welcoming. Cafe and toilet facilities very good. However the brightest star has to be reserved for the book pricing. It is so much easier for sorters, purchasers and counters to handle a limited range of prices. My only regret was I didn't come earlier in the week or get a chance to return (family commitments) a mistake I won't make next year, Elizabeth - wee wifey overdressed for the temperature!

This is a bright, white, friendly jewel of a place.

The Parish Church of St Cuthbert

A fabulous place to relax and extremely well located. We recommend to walk through the gorgeous cemetery surrounding the church; such a peaceful and scenic place, with Edinburgh Castle just sitting on top.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Edinburgh

The Table

3A Dundas St, Edinburgh EH3 6QG, UK – 0131 281 1689

When we booked this in January 2016 the first available date was July!.....however it was definitely worth the wait. Amazing food prepared right in front of you by the two chefs who own and run this restaurant. This has to be one of the best places to eat in Edinburgh and worth every penny. We are booked already...an absolute must for those who enjoy top class food

A dining experience, a journey with the chef to central italy or Indonesia or wherever he wants to take you. A conversation about food at a depth a normal restaurant doesn't attempt. Great food felt viscerally.

Restaurant Martin Wishart

54 Shore, Edinburgh EH6 6RA, UK – 0131 553 3557

Came to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Perfect choice for such at lunch time. Well paced meal. Excellently prepared and presented. No portion was too small nor too abundant, nor pushing aside the next plate. I really enjoyed the cheese plate. Five flavorful selections of mature cheeses. Bravo

Complex and beautifully balanced food. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Superb every time. (Not true of every Michelin starred restaurant in Edinburgh)

Number One

1 Princes St, Edinburgh EH2 2EQ, UK – 0131 557 6727

Gorgeous traditional fine-dining experience. Staff always very knowledgeable and friendly while maintaining the professionalism of silver service dining. Some courses here have been an utter joy - theatre on the plate. Always delicious, particularly the bread cart!

The food is as excellent as the service. Friendly and helpful staff cater to your every need and make the experience seem special. The menu is interesting and varied and provides a 3 course or taster menu. There is also a full vegetarian menu available on request. Extra touches like canapes, pre-cheese courses and mini desserts at no extra cost add to the occasion. It is obviously not cheap, but the quality of food and staff make it seem worth it.

My daughter has attended Palmerston place for a little over a year and the only words I can say to the staff are “thank you” for helping us grow a happy and self confident child who likes dancing and singing! Although childcare in Scotland is not always affordable, this group of girls have gone above and beyond for our little angel, and we will be forever grateful! You are absolutely fantastic!

Our child has been here for two years. He's very happy. We love the staff. Lots of fun activities. Great location.

Primary and Secondary Schools

Boroughmuir High School

111 Viewforth, Edinburgh EH11 1FL, UK – 0131 229 9703

Went to the open day today 24/03/18. What an amazing building. From initial worries about the size of the site and the ability to fit the ever increasing school roll into the new building I was surprised how spacious and well laid out the interior actually felt, not to mention the quality facilities. The atrium is spectacular and the light from the enclosed outdoor areas filters into the building creating a fantastic atmosphere. I am slightly worried about the drop from top level to bottom level through the the atrium but it is still very impressive.

St George's School for Girls

Garscube Terrace, Edinburgh EH12 6BG, UK – 0131 311 8000

I moved from Erskine Stewart's Melville School in P7 across to St. George's. The experience I had at this school was amazing. I loved coming to this school! The classes are a lot smaller this means that you get more attention from the teachers. All the teachers are so dedicated and passionate about their job and their subjects this in return made us want to learn more and do well in our exams. The EDUCATION, the SUPPORT, and the OPPORTUNITIES at this school are EXCELLENT.

Great school, good education. The food is great, the only problem was that you had to pay for all of the uniform.
